When God gives You People to Love

This weekend, I have two sessions I’m really looking forward to... a maternity shoot and a young couple who’s just starting their story together. I can already feel the joy that’s waiting to be captured; the way she’ll cradle her belly with that quiet mix of hope and awe, the way they’ll look at each other like they’ve found home in one another.

Moments like that always stir something deep in me. When I was younger, I dreamed of the same things... of falling in love, getting married, and becoming a mother. Those dreams were planted in me early, and for a long time, I thought that was the only way a woman could fully live out her purpose.

But life doesn’t always unfold the way we imagine it. God didn’t give me biological children of my own, but He gave me something I never saw coming -- people to love. Families, newborns, children, women stepping into new seasons, and even young couples just beginning their journeys. Each one is a reminder that His plans are higher than ours, and His love reaches into every space we thought might stay empty.

Every time I photograph a mother holding her baby or a couple laughing together, I feel it,  that gentle whisper from God saying, “See? I’m still writing your story.”

Through my camera, He’s allowed me to nurture in ways that go beyond bloodlines. To hold space for others, to celebrate new life, and to capture the beauty of love in all its forms. It’s not the story I thought I’d live...  it’s better. It’s bigger. It’s His.

So if you’ve ever found yourself in a season where God’s plan looks different from what you pictured, I hope this encourages you. Sometimes He doesn’t give us exactly what we prayed for , because He’s giving us more than we knew to ask.
